An Iowa City man faces several charges after allegedly firing his weapon in the air to intimidate someone he was in a physical fight with.

Police say the incident occurred in the 400 block of South Van Buren Street after 8:30 Monday night. 32-year-old Christopher Cummings and another man were fighting outside an apartment building. Cummings is accused of getting up and telling the victim, “I got something for you.” He then reportedly ran inside the apartment building , stood on the second floor balcony, pointed a gun in the air and fired off a round.

The victim ran from the scene, and later told authorities he was in fear when the shot was fired.

Several people were in the apartment building at the time of the incident.

Cummings was taken into custody and charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Going Armed with Intent, and Reckless Use of a Firearm. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over 15 years in prison.
