An Iowa City woman who was wanted on a probation violation was arrested late Sunday.

Police responded to the 200 block of Holiday Lodge Road in North Liberty around 11:15 pm on reports of a trespass. The suspect, identified as 30 year old Kristen Castillo of Mineral Point, was allegedly found walking southbound with a bottle of alcohol in her hand.  She reportedly had the odor of ingested alcohol and slurred speech.

Castillo then allegedly began arguing with another person and was arrested for public intoxication.

Upon arrival at the Johnson County Jail for booking, staff reportedly found a baggie of a white crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine in Castillo’s purse.

She was charged with public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance, third or subsequent offense. Those charges carry a maximum sentence of over five years in prison.

Castillo was wanted on a probation violation from an incident in April of this year. She was given a 90 day jail sentence on an assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury charge on May 27th. The sentence was discharged, and Castillo instead received a 75 day suspended sentence. She was also fined $855, and given two years probation with the requirement of getting a mental health evaluation and completing all ordered treatment.
