A Wellman man who allegedly popped a wheelie while driving his motorcycle down Highway 6 in Iowa City faces charges that he led police on a brief chase afterwards.

A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy reports seeing 21-year-old Cameron Shingledecker of 6th Street popping a wheelie while riding his 2015 Kawasaki westbound on Highway 6 near Heinz Road just after 5:30 Saturday night. Shingledecker allegedly fled at a high rate of speed when the officer turned around and activated his lights and siren. The chase continued west on Highway 6 and north on 1st Avenue.

The sheriff’s office says Shingledekcer later admitted to popping a wheelie and fleeing from police at a high rate of speed. He was arrested and charged with Eluding. If convicted, he faces a maximum of one year in jail.
