A Google investigation into suspicious activity has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man on child pornography charges.

According to arrest records, the internet giant made a report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in December of 2019 citing a Google account that had been uploading child pornography to Google Drive. That account was later determined to belong to 30-year-old Merveille Mboyo Lokwa of Rushmore Drive. Lokwa reportedly denied uploading the content.

A search warrant allowed investigators to search Lokwa’s computer and cellphone, where a number of files containing child pornography were located and seized. Police say the videos matched those reported by Google.

Lokwa was booked into the Johnson County Jail at 9:00 Thursday night and charged with Possessing the Depiction of a Minor in a Sex Act. If convicted, he faces a maximum of two years in prison.
