A suspect in a pair of assaults at a University of Iowa parking lot is back behind bars after he allegedly skipped a court date.

19-year-old Malik Yelvington of Goose Lake Circle in North Liberty was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 11:30 Friday night. Yelvington and 24-year-old Cecil Griffin of Highway 1 West in Iowa City are accused of attacking two victims in the Hawk Lot off Hawkeye Park Road last January. Each man is charged with two counts of Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor.

Yelvington was set to be arraigned on June 21st, but court records show he failed to appear. A warrant was issued the next day for his arrest.

Griffin has a case management conference set for August 30th. He entered a not guilty plea last month.

Yelvington also faces an August 9th arraignment on two more Assault Causing Bodily Injury charges after allegedly attacking two people at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area last month.

Both men could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted on both counts.
