An Oxford woman has been taken into custody on a warrant stemming from a September incident involving her allegedly taking a backpack full of drugs from a stopped vehicle.

Arrest reports indicate that on September 28th, a Johnson County deputy had stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of High Avenue in Oxford just before Midnight. 23-year-old Kiley Speers of Johnson Iowa Road Northwest is allegedly seen on the squad car camera running up to the vehicle, taking a backpack out of the vehicle, and running back into her home with it.

The deputy was not present, as the person he had stopped fled on foot and he was chasing him. The Drug Task Force said the backpack was filled with marijuana and prescription pills that were allegedly to be sold by a known drug dealer that the deputy later located and arrested. That person had been driving the car that the deputy stopped.

The deputy later that night asked Speers who had been driving the stopped vehicle that was registered to her. She reportedly lied to the deputy, saying it was a person named “Tyrese” that she had just met on Tinder. She subsequently admitted to Drug Task Force officers that it was actually someone else that authorities were looking for.

A warrant was issued for Speers’ arrest on June 30th, and she was booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday afternoon. She’s been charged with Obstructing Prosecution and Interference with Official Acts and could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail if convicted.

Speers contacted KCJJ after this story was published and said that the police “don’t know” what was in the backpack.
