University of Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz was announced as one of 17 coaches on the 2021 Dodd Trophy Preseason Watch List Tuesday.

The trophy is considered college football’s most coveted national coaching award. It celebrates the head coach of a team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity.

Of the 17 coaches on the list, five are from the Big Ten. Besides Ferentz, they include Tom Allen of Indiana, Paul Chryst of Wisconsin, Ryan Day of Ohio State, and James Franklin of Penn State.

Coach Ferentz won the award in 2015. Iowa State coach Matt Campbell is also on the preseason list.

A Dodd Coach of the Week will be named starting in September.

A mid-season watch list will be released in the fall. A final list will be announced at the end of the 2021 season, with the winner announced in Atlanta during the week of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
