An Iowa City man faces charges that he led police on a Tuesday night chase through southeast Iowa City.

Iowa City Police say an officer attempted a traffic stop on 32-year-old Donald Joicius of Taylor Drive just after 5:15pm after he was spotted not wearing a seat belt while driving his 2003 Lincoln Aviator southbound on Broadway Street.

Once the officer activated his lights and siren, Joicius allegedly sped up and fled westbound on Cross Park Avenue at a high rate of speed, blowing through the stop sign at Cross Park and Keokuk Street. Police say he almost hit an unmarked police car as he fled southbound on Keokuk.

Joicius was found a short time later and taken into custody.  He allegedly showed signs of intoxication, performed poorly on field sobriety tests and had blood alcohol readings of .100% and .081%.

Joicius is charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Eluding – Speeding Over 25 Miles Per Hour Over The Speed Limit  and Driving While Revoked. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of four years in prison.
