Falling asleep at a gas pump has led to the arrest of an Iowa City man on drug charges.

Iowa City Police were called to Kum & Go on Muscatine Avenue just after 8:45 Sunday morning for a man who had been sleeping while parked at a gas pump for over an hour. Arriving officers found 36-year-old Nicholas Anderson of Regal Lane asleep in the driver’s seat of a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. Anderson allegedly showed signs of impairment. A glass pipe was found in the cupholder, and an open container of alcohol was visible on the passenger side. A baggie containing a green, leafy substance was found on the passenger seat. Police say Anderson admitted that it was marijuana.

Anderson was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail.
