Coralville City Councilor Hai Huynh has announced that she will officially seek re-election this fall.

Huynh won a special election last year to fill the council seat left vacant by Dr. Tom Gill, who resigned after receiving backlash from comments he made about the Black Lives Matter movement at a July 2020 council meeting, including calling the movement “a bunch of criminals”.

Huynh is the first Vietnam native to be elected to any political office in the State of Iowa. She’s been a Coralville resident for 20 years and works as Community Projects Coordinator with the Coralville Community Food Pantry.

Huynh and her campaign team will be hosting a kickoff event on Monday, July 19 from 5:30-7:00pm at Central Park in Coralville (501 6th Street). Community members are invited to attend to enjoy free food, live music, and participate in conversations related to city matters of all types.
