A Colorado man and a Wisconsin man who kept changing directions on Interstate 80 were arrested Friday night after a trooper reported discovering numerous drugs inside their vehicle.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a westbound 2017 Chevy Malibu was reported driving recklessly on I-80, speeding and swerving. A witness reported it exiting the interstate, then returning to I-80 eastbound. A state trooper located the vehicle just after 5:30pm, exiting at the Highway 965 off-ramp, then turning left onto Highway 965 from the center lane before taking the on-ramp back to I-80 westbound.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop, and reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver was identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Gold of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. The passenger, 21-year-old Jacob Rose of Colorado Springs, Colorado. was the owner of the vehicle. Police say Rose admitted to having marijuana inside the car.

A probable cause search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a bag of meth, a bag of heroin, a marijuana joint, and used needles.

Police say Rose claimed the drugs were his. He’s charged with three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and one of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over three years in prison.

Gold was arrested after investigators discovered he had a warrant for his arrest out of Milwaukee for possession of opium. He was allegedly found hiding a small baggie of meth on his person as he was being booked into the Johnson County Jail. He now faces a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, which could lead to up to one year behind bars.
