Two people were arrested after a pair of separate suspected drunk driving accidents late Friday night and early Saturday morning on the same stretch of road.
The first incident was reported just before 11:45pm, when a 2011 Kia Sorrento went into the ditch on the 5000 block of Herbert Hoover Highway, near West Branch. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reports finding the driver and a passenger both showing signs of impairment. They each also allegedly admitted to being impaired.
The driver, 27-year-old Drake Keese of Durant, allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and provided a blood alcohol reading of .160%.
The second incident was reported to Iowa City Police just before 12:30 Saturday morning when a 2006 Volvo hit a tree on the 1200 block of Rochester Avenue. A witness identified the driver as 26-year-old Alexis Smith of Grantview Drive in Coralville. Police say Smith admitted to driving, showed signs of impairment, and had a BAC of .153%.
Keese and Smith are each charged with Operating While Intoxicated.
