A Solon man who allegedly tried to pass off a dog toy as a “safety device” has been arrested for drunken boating.

A DNR officer stopped 50-year-old Bradley McDonough of Westview Drive around 10pm Friday near Bobber’s Bar and Grill on the Coralville Reservoir. Officers say McDonough did not have the required navigation lights required for operating after sunset.

Arrest records indicate McDonough showed signs of intoxication, smelled of ingested alcohol, admitted to drinking, and showed an officer a dog toy as part of the safety check of the vessel. He also allegedly failed field sobriety testing at the Twin View Heights boat ramp. He registered a PBT of .143% on a Datamaster test.

McDonough is charged with Operating a Motorboat While Intoxicated.
