Allegedly threatening the protected party in a no-contact order with a knife has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.
Iowa City Police were called to an apartment on Benton Drive just after 1am Friday for a no-contact order violation. The caller said 58-year-old Stanley Bluitt, who lives in the apartment building next door, had been calling her names inside her residence for about five hours and refused to leave. She also said Bluitt had threatened her with a knife.
Bluitt was located by police outside his building, He claimed he’d had a dispute with the caller in the parking lot over their vehicles.
Police say Bluitt showed signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking. As officers attempted to arrest him, Bluitt allegedly refused to be handcuffed, and one officer suffered a scratch while forcing Bluitt’s hands behind his back.
Bluitt is charged with a no-contact order violation, Public Intoxication and Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
