Mercy Iowa City says they will be severing ties with the statewide MercyOne network after a four-year affiliation.
The Gazette reports that hospital staff were notified of the upcoming change in a memo Wednesday.
Spokesman Aaron Scheinblum, in a statement, said the independent hospital needs to align with a larger health system that shares their long-term goals. A MercyOne statement to the Gazette said that they cannot provide the integration Mercy Iowa City requires, as they are working on more fully aligning their internal structure.
MercyOne has been Mercy Iowa City’s managing partner since June 2017 and will remain so as Mercy looks for a new partner. A third party advisor is reviewing prospective entities.
