An Iowa City man was taken into custody late Monday after allegedly violating a no contact order by breaking into the residence of the mother of their unborn child and threatening her.

The alleged incident occurred at 11:30 pm at the woman’s Muscatine Avenue residence. She and 29-year-old Mosab Abdalla of South Riverside Court had lived together for 2-3 months before an April 21 domestic incident resulted in the no contact order.

Abdalla is accused of knocking on the woman’s door for nearly 30 minutes. He then allegedly moved an object near a window to the residence, climbed up, removed the screen and entered the residence. Once inside, Abdalla reportedly started yelling at the woman, who armed herself with a knife because she felt her life and that of their unborn child were in danger.

Abdalla allegedly told the woman that he would kill her before she would kill him.

During a subsequent interview with officers on the scene, Abdalla reportedly said that he understood the terms of the no-contact order between the two, but because she his having their child, his culture considers them married.  There is no official marriage between the two recognized by the United States.

Abdalla was taken into custody and charged with violation of the no-contact order, Domestic Abuse Assault 1st Offense, and 3rd degree Burglary., If convicted of the charges, he could face a prison term of over ten years.
