A Coralville man was taken into custody early Monday morning after allegedly striking his spouse with a glass bottle to the head.

Officers responded to reports of a domestic assault at the Iowa Lodge on the Coralville Strip around 4:50am. Witnesses on scene told police that they could hear a physical altercation from the apartment, indicated by a thumping sound on the wall as if a body were being thrown against it.  Upon arrival, the victim was reportedly hysterical and bloody.

Witnesses also alleged that they saw 65-year-old Jerome Quamina strike his wife over the head with a glass bottle. Broken glass was reportedly found on scene and around Quaminia’s wife, and she sustained a laceration to her head that required a trip to the hospital for treatment. She wasn’t interviewed about the altercation until after the fact.

Quamina was taken to the Johnson County Jail just before 2am Tuesday and charged with 2nd offense Domestic Abuse Assault, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to two years if convicted.
