A North Liberty man wanted on domestic abuse charges from earlier this month was arrested Sunday when he reportedly committed another assault.

The first incident allegedly occurred the morning of June 6th. The victim called from another apartment and said she was assaulted by 28-year-old Laron Leonard of South Chestnut Street. Leonard reportedly was suspicious of the woman seeing another person and confronted her by yelling and pushing her to the ground. He then allegedly pinned her down and refused to let her get up. He reportedly told her to “shut the eff up” and “talk ess now” as she continued to resist.

Leonard reportedly broke her Iphone 8 in half during the altercation.

He was charged with first offense Domestic Abuse and 4th degree Criminal Mischief; a warrant for his arrest was issued on June 7th.

Sunday, Leonard reportedly committed an assault at a residence on Wayne Street in Iowa City. Police were called to the scene after a disturbance ended up becoming a domestic dispute. Leonard, who now lives on Muscatine Avenue, reportedly punched the woman during the altercation, causing ringing in her right ear. The force of his punch pushed her earring through her ear.

Leonard was arrested on the initial warrant and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury, and if convicted on all counts could be sentenced to up to 25 months in jail.
