A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody Sunday night after a traffic stop in North Liberty turned up marijuana and methamphetamine.

46-year-old Marcus Duke of 17th Street Southeast was stopped just before 8:30pm near the intersection of Forevergreen Road and Kansas Avenue for several equipment violations on his 2008 Nissan Xterra. A probable cause search was initiated after a K9 alerted to the presence of drugs. Officers found about 8 grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of marijuana found in a bag located in close proximity of Duke’s driver’s seat.

Duke has two previous controlled substance convictions from Linn County.

He has been charged with a Class B Controlled Substance Violation and Failure to affix Drug Stamp. If convicted on both charges, Duke could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.
