University of Iowa freshman Alexa Noel is one of the five women tennis players to be selected as the Top American college players by the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The USTA announced the top 10 American college players on Wednesday. The training program is created to guide America’s premier college players to professional tennis players in a team-oriented environment.
Each player was selected based on their ATP or their WTA singles rankings, or a combination of their pro and ITA singles rankings along with their Universal Tennis Rating. All players are eligible to receive grant money for travel to USTA Pro Circuit events and coaching support over four weeks in the summer.
Noel suffered a sprained ankle during her last singles match at the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships when she fell in three sets to LSU’s Paris Corley. Noel has not yet returned to the court following her injury, but is hoping to make her summer debut soon. Noel is the first Iowa tennis player to be selected as a Top 10 American college player.
