An Iowa City man has been arrested after allegedly threatening people with a handgun.

Police say 23-year-old Benjamin Mayes of Pepperwood Lane was at a family gathering on Cambria Court Sunday afternoon. According to the arrest complaint, Mayes displayed a small black pistol and pointed it at two other occupants of the residence after a brief altercation with the other occupants of the residence over a card game that was being played. Mayes is accused of pointing the gun at the occupants two separate times during the incident.

Mayes allegedly said “I have two bullets with both your names on it” to the occupants while he was pointing the gun at them the second time.

A warrant was requested for his arrest Monday, and Mayes was arrested later that afternoon. He’s been charged with Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, an Aggravated Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum jail sentence of two years if convicted.
