An Iowa City man convicted on charges that he sexually abused his stepdaughter has lost an appeal in the case.
58-year-old Jeffry Waite was found guilty in 2019 on five counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse and one of Lascivious Acts with A Minor. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Waite appealed his convictions, claiming “the State’s expert witness directly and the prosecutor indirectly vouched for the complaining witness’s credibility, his convictions are not supported by sufficient evidence, and the district court abused its discretion in imposing consecutive terms of incarceration.”
On Wednesday, the Iowa Court of Appeals rejected Waite’s appeal and reaffirmed the sentence.
Police say Waite sexually abused the girl from 2013 to 2019.
