Officials are investigating an overnight fire that damaged a North Liberty restaurant.
According to a release from the City, The North Liberty Fire Department was dispatched at 2:16 am Tuesday for a report of smoke coming from the Tin Roost at 840 W. Penn St. A Johnson County Sheriff’s deputy was first to arrive and confirmed the presence of smoke in the building. The restaurant was closed and there were no occupants at the time of the fire.
Arriving crews found the fire in the kitchen, being held in check by the building’s sprinkler system. Firefighters fully extinguished the blaze, determined that it hadn’t spread elsewhere in the building, and ventilated the smoke.
The North Liberty Fire Department had help from Coralville and Solon Fire Departments. North Liberty Police, Johnson County Ambulance, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene. The site was cleared in just under two hours.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate has been made available.
