A man originally from Tuscaloosa Alabama was jailed Monday after a domestic incident with the mother of his child.

Police say that they were called to an Iowa City apartment on reports of an argument between a man and a a woman. The caller stated that the woman was yelling “Don’t hit me.” Upon arrival, officers met 26-year-old Keaunte Little outside the residence, and he reportedly told them he was arguing with the mother of his child. He said they both tried to hit each other but did not land any blows.

The victim was found with a bloody lip and blood on her clothes. A third party on scene told police that Little had hit the woman in the mouth several times. Another witness who allegedly broke up the altercation had blood stains on her clothes as well.

When told he was under arrest, Little reportedly pulled away from officers and retreated to the corner of a bedroom and put his hands up in a defensive posture. Little was told he was under arrest again, tried to shove an officer away, and was eventually handcuffed.

Little was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury and Interference with Official Acts, and could be sentenced to up to 13 months in jail if convicted on both counts.
