A North Liberty woman was taken into custody after being allegedly observed doing a drug deal.

Arrest reports indicate the incident occurred Saturday afternoon around 5:45 at the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street. Police saw an unidentified male approach the vehicle, in which 19-year-old Sydney Schalla of Prospect Court was a passenger. A hand-to-hand drug transaction allegedly took place between the male and the vehicle’s driver.

A traffic stop was initiated at Muscatine Avenue and 4th Avenue, and the smell of fresh marijuana could reportedly be detected from the vehicle. A probable cause search turned up approximately 1 gram of marijuana wax, which Schalla allegedly admitted ownership of.

The woman was taken into custody and charged with first offense marijuana possession. If convicted, Schalla could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
