Iowa City Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred Sunday.
According to a release from the city, at approximately 1:36 a.m. an Iowa City Police Officer was driving in the 1900 Block of Broadway Street when they heard multiple gunshots, with one of the shots ricocheting in front of the patrol vehicle. The officer then saw a person running to the south. The officer could not see where the shots were fired from, but was able to immediately locate the person who had been running.
The adult male was found in the parking lot of the Pepperwood Plaza, located in the 1900 Block of Broadway Street, and was suffering from three gunshot wounds. The officer pulled the man to cover in order to render aid until responding officers could arrive and safely have the victim evacuated to paramedics.
The shooting victim told responding officers he did not know who shot him or why they were shooting at him. Officers located evidence on scene, but were not able to locate any suspects. The victim was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with what was believed to be non-life- threatening injuries.
Police are asking the public for assistance in this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact the Iowa City Police Department with any potential footage or information about this incident.
