With high temperatures reaching the 90’s for the first time this year, more boaters are hitting local waterways this weekend. That led to the first drunken boating arrest of 2021 Friday night at the Coralville Reservoir.

Water patrol officers stopped a boat being operated by 31-year-old Jacob Johnson of Franklin Street in North Liberty around 9pm near the Mehaffey Boat Ramp. Johnson was allegedly not using the proper navigation lights for that time of night.

The arresting officer says Johnson showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to drinking, showed impairment on field sobriety tests, and registered a blood alcohol content of .101%.

Johnson was arrested and charged with Operating a Motorboat While Intoxicated.
