The Iowa City city council is set to vote on hiring a new city attorney at Tuesday night’s meeting.

That’s according to the meeting agenda released Friday. It shows the council will vote to approve a contract for current assistant city attorney Eric Goers. Goers has been in his current position since September of 2005. He’s a 1997 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law, and previously served as an attorney for Washington County.

If his contract is approved, Goers would earn a base annual salary of $160,000 as the new city attorney.

Goers would replace former city attorney Eleanor Dilkes, who retired last month. Candidates for her replacement were interviewed earlier this month.

First assistant city attorney Sue Dulek is currently serving as interim city attorney until Goers is officially approved.

Tuesday’s city council meeting will be held via Zoom.
