Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson’s office issued a statement on the “guilty verdict” in the Mollie Tibbetts trial as jurors continue to deliberate Cristhian Bahena Rivera’s fate.
At 10:35 this morning, an e-mail released by Hinson’s office said, “I believe justice was served in this case and hope the Tibbetts family can find closure. We have to work to ensure that no other family endures what the Tibbetts family has gone through.”
A retraction was issued less than 15 minutes later, saying the statement was sent in error. It said that Congresswoman Hinson will have a statement at the conclusion of the trial. The campaign apologized for the error.
Jurors got the case for deliberation Thursday afternoon and as of publication of this story had yet to reach a verdict.
