Cedar Rapids mayoral candidate Tiffany O’Donnell announced on her Facebook page Wednesday afternoon that she will be supporting the construction of a new casino in the downtown area.

O’Donnell, the CEO of the national non-profit Women Lead Change, said in a statement that she wants to increase the amount of money dedicated to local non-profits from the casino board from 3 to 5 percent.

She says that “the landscape has changed” since the last time the state Racing and Gaming Commission turned the city down. She says that there are new members on the Commission and increased competition from Nebraska.

Cedar Rapids residents will get to vote on a casino referendum this November when they vote for a new mayor. O’Donnell is running for the spot along with current mayor Brad Hart and Amara Andrews, TrueNorth Companies head of business development and communications in their transportation division.
