An Iowa City man facing multiple car burglary charges has been arrested for an alleged domestic assault.

According to police, 19-year-old Jeiden Fair of Amber Lane and the reported victim have been sharing his residence for the last six years. On Tuesday night at 7:15, it’s alleged that Fair and the other party got into a verbal argument that escalated to the point that Fair said, “If you get in my face I’m going to punch you.” The victim continued the argument, and Fair reportedly made good on his word, punching the victim in the face.

A physical fight ensued, and the victim slammed a glass on a nearby table in anger, causing a laceration.

When Fair was placed into handcuffs, he allegedly resisted being placed into a squad car. He was charged with Domestic Abuse Assault and Interference with Official Acts, both simple misdemeanors.

Fair faces several car burglary or attempted car burglary charges over the past several months, including July, August and December of last year, and January and February of this year. Court records indicate that Fair was ordered to submit to a competency evaluation on April 6th, and on May 19th Judge Jason Burns ordered proceedings against Fair to be suspended indefinitely as he was ordered to be placed in a treatment program.

A status conference hearing is scheduled for June 16th.
