A West Branch man who reportedly was passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle claimed he wasn’t going to drive when arrested for OWI.

Officers observed 22-year-old Jordan Davis of Delta Avenue parked behind the wheel of a 2011 Chevy in the 100 block of South Gilbert Street Saturday at 4:05am. They made contact with him when it appeared that he was passed out.

Davis allegedly said that despite the fact that the vehicle’s motor was running, and his seatbelt was fastened, he did not intend to drive. Davis reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech and balance, and had the odor of ingested alcohol. He also had bar wristbands on, admitted to drinking, and showed impairment on field tests.

A PBT showed a blood-alcohol level of .173 percent , with a subsequent Datamaster result of .158 percent.

Davis was charged with his first OWI, a serious misdemeanor.
