Trial will continue Monday morning in Scott County for the man accused of killing a University of Iowa student almost three years ago.

Cristhian Bahena Rivera faces a 1st Degree Murder charge in the death of Mollie Tibbetts. The 20-year-old Tibbetts disappeared on July 18, 2018, while on a run in rural Poweshiek County near her hometown of Brooklyn. After a massive police and volunteer effort to find Tibbetts, authorities say Bahena Rivera led them to her body about a month later. Prosecutors say Bahena Rivera stabbed Tibbetts to death.

Bahena Rivera’s trial is set to resume at 8:30 Monday morning. The prosecution still has other witnesses to call, including Deputy Chief State Medical Examiner Dennis Klein.

If convicted, Bahena Rivera faces life in prison.
