A Davenport man faces several charges after allegedly assaulting a woman in North Liberty Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to a residence on Goose Lake Circle just before 4:20 pm  on report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the victim reported that 18-year-old Messiah Tot of East Locust Street in Davenport confronted her inside the bathroom and refused to let her leave. She accused Tot of striking her on her head five or six times..

While she was reportedly trying to call 9-1-1 for assistance, Tot allegedly tackled her, causing her to lose control of her phone. She stated that Tot refused to let her leave the bathroom, and she had to force her way out.

The woman was observed with visible facial, hand and leg injuries.  The man, who lives with the woman at the residence, refused to answer any questions.

When told he was under arrest, Tot resisted being handcuffed, then resisted being put into a squad car. An officer suffered a head contusion while trying to get Tot into the vehicle. Police also say that Tot had three plastic bags with the appearance and odor of marijuana, a scale, and a significant amount of cash in a bag he was carrying. The gross weight of the drug was measured at 79 grams.

Tot was charged with Class D felonies for the marijuana possession and a drug tax stamp violation. He also faces charges of Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, False Imprisonment, Interference with Official Acts causing injury, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. If convicted on all counts, Tot could be sentenced to over thirteen years in prison.
