An Iowa City man has been charged with allegedly assaulting his 14-year-old daughter.

Police say the incident occurred at the South Riverside Drive residence of 42-year-old Garland Anderson the afternoon of May 5th. The girl told officers that during an argument, Anderson slapped her and struck her in the head with a cellphone. She also alleges that Anderson grabbed her by the throat and lifted her from a seated position.

The girl reportedly had a laceration on her lip and bruising on her neck consistent with her statements. When Anderson was interviewed, he admitted to an altercation but could not provide exact details regarding his actions and those of his daughter.

A warrant was requested for his arrest this week, and he has been charged with Child Endangerment involving Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
