ICPD identifies man killed by gunshots Sunday

Iowa City Police have identified the victim of a suspicious death reported Sunday.

The man, 45-year-old Frederick Rumble of Iowa City, was located at 1:20am when officers responded to the area of Sandusky Drive and Taylor Drive on reports of shots fired.  Upon arrival, they discovered a vehicle in the 1300 block of Bancroft Drive that had collided with a tree. Rumble, the driver, had sustained gunshot wounds. He was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where he was later pronounced deceased.

Based on the autopsy conducted by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office, Rumble’s death has been ruled a homicide.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa City Police, the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
