A Cedar Rapids man faces numerous assault-related charges after he was identified as being wanted on outstanding warrants.

Police located 22-year-old Anthony Davis of North Towne Road Northeast just before 2am Sunday in downtown Iowa, near the intersection of Linn and Burlington Streets. An officer asked Davis to come with him after he said he knew his name and that he had warrants. Davis then allegedly ran, ignoring commands to stop.

Once the officer caught up with the suspect, Davis reportedly turned and squared up with the officer, throwing punches. While taking Davis to the ground, he allegedly bit two officers, drawing blood and causing them to need medical treatment. He’s also accused of taking an officer’s taser and putting it underneath him. Davis reportedly continued to bite at officers and kept the taser for a period of time, refusing to put his hands behind his back. He finally was subdued after being tased and pepper-sprayed.

Davis was arrested and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. During transport, he allegedly spit on a paramedic, then reportedly head-butted a nurse at the ER. After treatment, Davis was taken to the Johnson County Jail just before 4:30 am.

Monday afternoon, Davis allegedly was observed repeatedly hitting his head against the wall of his jail cell. Officers were called to restrain him, and he allegedly tensed his body, kicked, pushed and spat at them. It took several officers to restrain Davis, who allegedly continued to assault officers and resist their attempts to get him under control.

Davis faces a multitude of charges over the two days. They include disarming a peace officer, two counts of interference with official acts causing bodily injury, two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations with bodily injury, and four counts of assault on persons in certain occupations. If convicted on all charges, Davis faces up to fifteen years in prison.
