A Tiffin man has been taken into custody after being picked up on warrants stemming from an altercation with police on April 17th.

Officers observed 29-year-old Bryan James of Iris Court on the Coralville Strip just after 2:15am, allegedly swerving in and out of his lane while traveling westbound. He was stopped and reportedly agreed to submit to field sobriety tests. After performing poorly, James was being placed into custody when he reportedly began to scuffle with officers.

James is accused of physically resisting, pushing and striking officers before attempting to flee. While chasing him down, James allegedly swung an elbow at an officer, hitting the forehead.

James is an habitual offender and shouldn’t have been driving. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was picked up late Saturday night as he was traveling south on Interstate 380 near the 2 mile marker.

James faces charges of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations causing Bodily Injury, Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury, and two counts of Driving While Barred as an Habitual Offender. If convicted on all counts, James faces a maximum prison term of seven years.
