Special election scheduled for vacant Johnson County Supervisor position

A special election will be held in on Tuesday, June 8, to fill a vacancy on the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. That decision was made by the county’s officers during a special meeting on Friday. Officers include County Treasurer Tom Kriz, Recorder Kim Painter and Auditor Travis Weipert.

The vacancy occurred when Supervisor Janelle Rettig resigned last Sunday.

The filing deadline for candidates is Friday, May 14th. The voter pre-registration deadline and deadline to request a mailed absentee ballot is Monday, May 24th.

The election winner will serve until Friday, Dec. 31, 2022.

Two candidates have already announced plans to run: Democrat and assistant county attorney Scott Finlayson and current Coralville city councilor Meghann Foster.
