Allegedly threatening his neighbor, then a police dispatcher, has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

Iowa City Police say 56-year-old Warren Ray LeClere threatened the neighbor in the shared hallway of his Myrtle Avenue apartment building just after 8:15 Friday night. LeClere allegedly told the victim, “If you pull a knife on me, I’m going to beat your ass.” Police say the statement was unprovoked. LeClere later admitted to making the threat, despite the fact he was ordered on April 4th not to harass the same subject.

LeClere then allegedly called 9-1-1 approximately ten times before calling the routine Iowa City Police phone number. At one point LeClere told the dispatcher, “you are going to be killed soon.”

Online police records show earlier calls Friday afternoon from LeClere’s apartment building. One call just before 12:15 involved the caller swearing and saying somebody was going to be killed. Just before 4:30pm a caller made statements about running over drug dealers before hanging up.

Just after 6:30pm LeClere’s neighbor called to say he was drunk and throwing things around in the hallway. Just after 8:15 a neighbor called to say LeClere was in the hallway yelling racial slurs and threatening people, and that it had been happening all day. Other calls were made from the building throughout the day.

LeClere is charged with 1st Degree Harassment and Making a False Report to 9-1-1. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 25 months in prison.
