Iowa City Police got help from Facebook to identify a suspect accused of threatening to shoot a woman last summer.

Police say that on July 13th, 21-year-old Divia Greer of Cross Park Avenue confronted the woman at the Town and Campus Apartments, and engaged in a verbal altercation. Both the woman and other witnesses heard Greer tell her that she was dead and that she was going to shoot her.

Greer fled the scene before police arrived, but the victim showed officers text messages from Greer where she said the woman was going to die. The victim only knew Greer by her alias, DaDa. However, she was able to provide police with Facebook profiles belonging to Greer.

Subpoenas were requested, approved and sent off to Facebook, who provided authorities with the information needed to positively identify Greer as the woman who threatened the victim.

During a subsequent interview, Greer allegedly admitted to being at Town and Campus on the night in question to fight the woman and threatening her life.

A warrant for her arrest was requested, and Greer was arrested Wednesday night. She’s been charged with First Degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to two years if convicted.
