The first finalist for president at the University of Iowa spoke during an open forum Monday, and stressed her value on personal integrity.

Hari Osofsky is currently dean of the Penn State College of Law, and the Penn State School of International Affairs. She has nearly 20 years of academic experience.

The Daily Iowan reports that during Monday’s forum, Osofsy talked about how she would place a heavy emphasis on collaboration in an inclusive way. She added that as president, she wouldn’t be afraid to make decisions that although may be the right thing to do, may upset people. She’s quoted as saying, “I think you have to have that sense of moral courage and moral integrity as a leader in those moments to do the right thing. So, I think that’s what’s most important.”

She discussed holding  listening sessions with campus groups and other members of the community as one way to improve in diversity, equity, and inclusion at the school.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing requirements,  only 40 people were allowed in –person for the forum. They were divided equally among undergraduate students, graduate and professional students, faculty, staff, and community members.

The next candidate will be announced Wednesday morning. Members of campus will have until April 27th to provide feedback using an online form.
