Traffic stop leads to drug charges against North Liberty man

A North Liberty man who was stopped on a traffic violation faces drug charges.

According to arrest reports, 60-year-old James Poggenpohl of North Main Street was observed on George Street around 8:30;m Friday. He allegedly failed to stop as he turned east onto Cherry Street, and a traffic stop was initiated.

A K9 officer was requested, and alerted to drugs in the vehicle. Poggenpohl reportedly had two baggies in his hand that contained a white crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine. Another baggie was found in a pill bottle.

Poggenpohl has two previous drug convictions in 1996; he was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Offense, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
