A Coralville man arrested for domestic assault allegedly added to his woes when he resisted arrest, and was reportedly found with drugs on his person.

Police say that the incident occurred on Tuesday, when 25-year-old Christian Bryant of 10th Street reportedly assaulted the woman, causing a visible injury to her neck. She notified police on Thursday and they came to the residence in the early morning hours to arrest Bryant.

Officers on scene report that Bryant flexed his arms to prevent officers from placing his hands behind his back. He allegedly refused officer commands and began pulling away after he was handcuffed. Bryant was taken to the ground, where he allegedly began kicking officers. They put him in leg restraints, but not before Bryant reportedly caused abrasions to the officer’s forearm and bicep.

During a post-arrest search, a black bag with “Rick and Morty” cartoon images and writing was discovered. Inside, officers allegedly found 5 grams of marijuana. They also found a yellow prescription bottle with 8 white oval-shaped pills stamped with R180. The pills were identified as Tizanidine, and the prescription label had been removed from the bottle.

While being read his Miranda rights, Bryant allegedly began snoring in an attempt to ignore officers. They say he had no comment on the prescription bottle or the pills in his possession.

Bryant faces charges of Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, Interference with Official Acts causing Bodily Injury, Marijuana Possession second offense, and Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
