North Liberty man wanted on drug warrants found in possession of drugs when arrested

A North Liberty man who was wanted on drug warrants was found Monday night in the possession of drugs.

47-year-old Carl Wixom of Hawkeye Drive had been wanted on two warrants. A search warrant executed at his residence on May 29, 2019 allegedly found 22.5 grams of methamphetamine, and he reportedly admitted under Miranda that he sold the drug.

Another search warrant was executed this past March 4th and authorities found multiple containers containing a substance consistent with marijuana.

Arrest warrants were issued for Wixom on April 1st.

Monday night, Wixom’s vehicle was stopped near his residence due to the outstanding warrants. A police K9 on scene allegedly alerted to the presence of narcotics, and a subsequent probable cause search turned up marijuana in the trunk. Wixom also allegedly admitted that he shoved an additional bag of marijuana down his pants and turned it over to officers.

In total, Wixom faces a Class B controlled substance violation, a tax stamp violation, two counts of possession of a controlled substance 3rd or subsequent, and 3rd or subsequent marijuana possession. If convicted on all charges, Wixom could be sentenced to up to 42 years in prison.
