Cedar Rapids police arrest suspect after shots fired incident

Cedar Rapids police have arrested a suspect after a shots fired incident Sunday night.

In a release from the CRPD, officers responded to the 1600 block of 30th Street Northwest just before 6:45 pm  on a report of shots fired. Witness information determined that a man discharged a handgun in the air and threatened to shoot a 23-year-old male. The suspect then reportedly fled on foot.

Officers located six 9mm shell casings, and a description of the suspect was obtained. He was identified as 27-year-old Nicholas Johnson of Cedar Rapids.

Police located Johnson inside a vehicle in the 800 block of D Avenue Northwest a little over an hour later. A 9mm handgun was recovered under his seat.

Johnson was arrested and charged with Reckless Use of a Firearm and Possession of Marijuana.
