A North Liberty woman was taken into custody Thursday morning after allegedly breaking into her ex-boyfriend’s residence, assaulting him and his new girlfriend.
Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Holiday Lodge Road around 8:15am on reports of an assault in progress. Once on scene, they learned that 27-year-old Yaneli Canales of North Kansas Avenue and the man had been in a relationship for about 8 years and had two children together, but had recently just broke up.
Canales reportedly forced her way into the man’s residence. Once inside, she’s accused of assaulting her ex, then breaking the back bedroom door to assault his current girlfriend. The woman was holding a child during the assault.
The ex-boyfriend received scratches, a split lip, and possibly a broken toe.
Ms. Canales was taken into custody and charged with 1st degree Burglary, Domestic Abuse Assault causing Injury, and Child Endangerment. If convicted on all counts, she could be sentenced to up to 28 years in prison.
A no-contact order was requested by the alleged victims.
