An Iowa City man has been arrested on a warrant stemming from an incident involving an auto repair shop.

Police were called to Number 1 Auto Repair on Southgate Avenue the afternoon of March 27th on reports of a caller harassing an employee there. According to the victim, 56-year-old Jeffery Serum of Aber Avenue had called the business several times that day despite requests that he stop. While talking with the victim, Serum allegedly called again and began to threaten the victim. Police say that Serum told the victim to, quote, “get out of my country” and threatened to “shove my gun up your ass after I kill you.”

The conversation was recorded by the responding officer on his body camera.

A warrant was issued for Serum’s arrest, and he was taken into custody Thursday afternoon. He’s been charged with 1st degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by a sentence of up to two years if convicted.

A no-contact order was requested by the victim.
