A transient faces charges that he damaged an Iowa City Police cruiser with his teeth while intoxicated.

The ICPD responded to Papa John’s on South Gilbert Street just after 7pm Monday for an intoxicated male pounding on the back door. 35-year-old Patrick Lewis was still pounding on the door when officers arrived. Police say Lewis showed multiple signs of intoxication and was belligerent and aggressive with officers. After repeated attempts to calm Lewis down, he allegedly pounded on the hood of the patrol car with both fists. As he was being taken into custody, Lewis allegedly used his teeth to scratch the paint off the vehicle down to the metal.

Lewis is charged with Public Intoxication and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 60 days in jail.
