One person was injured after two transients got into a physical altercation outside of an Iowa City homeless shelter.

Iowa City Police were called to the wet shelter on Southgate Avenue just after 3:45 Saturday afternoon for two subjects engaged in a physical altercation. The pair was still fighting at the corner of Southgate and Waterfront Drive when officers arrived. It was determined that 41-year-old Aurelius King had instigated the fight, with witnesses saying King punched the other man three times in the face. The victim suffered an injury to his right eye which caused bleeding and swelling.

Police say King showed signs of intoxication and refused breath testing. He was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both charges he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
